Adam Gilchrist Reveals His Favourite Teams For ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020
The legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist believes that T20I cricket is a lottery. However, he has revealed which teams are favourites to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 trophy.
Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 from 18th October to 15th November 2020. It will be the seventh edition of the men’s T20 World Cup while Australia will host this tournament for the first time.
A total of 16 teams will participate in this tournament. Apart from the top 10-ranked T20I teams, six more qualified teams are ready to join this tournament.
At a recent promotional event, Adam Gilchrist spoke about his favourites for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. Gilchrist is making a high bet on India as he feels that India should reach the semifinals or further. However, the former Aussie wicketkeeper didn’t predict the winners of this tournament.
According to Gilchrist, England, Australia and New Zealand have also better chances, along with India, to reach at least the semifinals of the next T20 World Cup.
Gilchrist said, “Probably they (India) will be featuring in semi-finals and the finals. I can’t predict who is going to win but I suspect that the usual suspects like India, England, Australia and New Zealand will probably make the long way, semi-finals of course.”
You cannot rule Pakistan out – Adam Gilchrist
Adam Gilchrist also feels that the present no.1-ranked T20I team Pakistan can also win the T20 World Cup 2020. He further added that this format is a bit of lottery.
Gilchrist added, “Pakistan are number one ranked team in the format, so you cannot rule them out. But T20 cricket is a bit of lottery so it is hard to predict the winner until the final runs are scored or wickets are taken.”
India won the inaugural World T20 in 2007. Later, Pakistan (2009), England (2010), Windies (2012 and 2016) and Sri Lanka (2014) have also won this World T20 trophy. Only Windies have won this trophy for twice.
In early 2020, Australia will also host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. It will be also the seventh edition of this tournament that will run between 21st February and 8th March 2020. A total of 10 teams will participate in this tournament.
