Afghanistan Cricket Board Reveals 15-Member Test Squad Against Windies
On Monday (25th November), Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the 15-member squad for the only Test against Windies.
After the limited-overs series against Windies in India, Afghanistan will play the only Test against the same side. Ekana International Cricket Stadium (Lucknow), which hosted all the recent limited-overs matches between Afghanistan and Windies, will also host this Test match from 27th November.
Rashid Khan will continue the leadership role in the upcoming Test match against Windies. Talking about the uncapped Test players, the left-arm pacer Hamza Hotak and medium-pacer Nijat Masood are likely to make their Test debuts in this upcoming game. Both have impressed with their recent consistent performances in limited-overs cricket.
In this 15-member squad, a total of four players are uncapped Test players. Apart from Hamza Hotak and Nijat Masood, Karim Janat and Nasir Jamal are the other cricketers who haven’t played a Test match yet. The 20-year-old Nijat Masood is the only player among them who hasn’t played an international game yet.
Afghanistan have won both the Tests in this year
The upcoming Test will be the fourth Test for Afghanistan, third in this year (2019). They made their Test debut in June 2018 with the Bengaluru Test against the hosts India. Afghanistan lost that game by an innings and 262 runs. Till the date, it is the only Test where they suffered a defeat.
This year, Afghanistan played against Ireland in March (at Dehradun) and against the hosts Bangladesh in September (at Chattogram). The 12th Test member side won both those matches and wants to continue this form against the eighth-ranked Test team Windies.
Full Squad: Rashid Khan (c), Asghar Afghan, Ihsanullah Janat, Ibrahim Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Rahmat Shah, Karim Janat, Qais Ahmed, Ikram Alikhiel (wk), Afsar Zazai, Nasir Jamal, Zahir Khan, Yamin Ahmadzai, Hamza Hotak, Nijat Masood.
