Former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana was famous for his aggressive batting. After he was promoted to the opening batting position, he and the legendary Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya provided the firing start for the ODI side in the first 15-over fielding restriction (past rules in ODI cricket). He was a member of the Sri Lankan team while winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996.

From 1990 to 2004, Kaluwitharana played 49 Tests and 189 ODIs for Sri Lanka where the right-handed batsman scored 1,933 runs (average 26.12) and 3,711 runs (average 22.22) respectively along with the strike-rate of 60.34 and 77.70 respectively.

In his late cricket career (2004-2005) while he played five T20s, the right-handed batsman scored 158 runs with the strike-rate of 141.07 (average 31.60). Surely, he could be an entertaining and successful wicketkeeper-batsman in IPL history.
