After some tough period, the Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has just returned to the form. Recently, he credited the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar after returning to good form.
Few years ago, Ahmed Shehzad was the regular limited-overs cricketer for the Pakistan national cricket team. He has played 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 57 T20Is for Pakistan where he has scored 982, 2,605 and 1,454 runs respectively.
However, at present, he has hugely struggled to find his spot in the national team. In the last year, he played only four T20Is, his last Test and ODIs both were in 2017.
Later, he faced tougher times after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suspended him from cricket for a small period. The PCB suspended him for four months after his sample test found the dope violation. That sample was collected during the Pakistan Cup 2018 which ran between 25th April and 6th May 2018.
Later, Ahmed Shehzad accepted his dope violation, but the PCB decided to suspend him for four months. Originally his suspension was going to end on 10th November 2018, but it was extended due to another violation during that suspension period.
During his suspension period, he played some cricket matches for Muslim Gymkhana Club. As a result, he faced six more weeks’ suspension from the cricket, and he was finally freed on 23rd December.
Ahmed Shehzad has played some good innings in recent times
The right-handed batsman has returned to the professional cricket in the ongoing PSL 2019. After eight long months, Ahmed Shehzad played his first professional match on 15th February 2019 when he represented Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi at Dubai.
In his first two games after the suspension, he scored just 0 and two runs respectively. Later, he played an unbeaten 28-run match-winning innings against Multan Sultans.
After that, the right-handed batsman played two more big match-winning innings for Quetta Gladiators. After scoring 50 runs against Peshawar Zalmi, he recently scored 73 runs against Islamabad United. Playing another match-winning innings, Ahmed Shehzad won the Player of the Match award in the recent match against Islamabad United.
I had a talk with Sachin, and he was stressing that you should not regret
During his hard time, Ahmed Shehzad spoke to Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary Indian cricketer told him to not regret about his past. After returning to the recent form, he is confident of making a comeback into the national team soon.
Ahmed Shehzad said according to Gulf News, “I had a talk with Sachin and he was stressing that you should not regret. In his interviews also, he has said that one should do so much hard work that there shouldn’t be any regret. I have tried to do that. As a Muslim, you believe that things will happen as per the wishes of Allah but if your process is good and giving 110 per cent then that’s what is important. I’m confident that I can comeback into the Pakistan team. This one thing that one shouldn’t forget and I have learnt that from a young age.”
Ahmed Shehzad played his last international match against Scotland in a T20I at Edinburgh on 13th June 2018.
