IPL 2020: Skipper Shreyas Iyer Gives Liberty To Bowlers – Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra credited skipper Shreyas Iyer for DC’s success as he gives liberty to bowlers. Delhi Capitals, along with Rajasthan Royals, are the only unbeaten teams in IPL 2020 so far. It has been a good start to IPL 2020 for both these teams that are yet to win an IPL title even once.

The Delhi Capitals will next be playing the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, a team that is languishing at the bottom of the points table, with two losses in their opening two games. Speaking about their success in this tournament so far, Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra credited their young skipper Shreyas Iyer for their success and said that he gives freedom to the bowlers to choose how they want to go about their spells.

He also said that as the Indian Premier League goes ahead, Shreyas Iyer is only likely to get better in that role.

“Shreyas Iyer is a captain who gives freedom to his bowlers, be it in the planning or field arrangement. Iyer gives us all the liberty. He has been good so far and I can only see him get better as a captain with experience as the tournament goes on,” he said in a press conference ahead of the game against SRH.

The bowlers in Delhi Capitals have done exceedingly well in the two games so far. In their last encounter against the Chennai Super Kings, they restricted the MS Dhoni-led side, that has batsmen like Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni himself, to a mere 131/7, chasing a target of 176.

In their first match, they had won against the Kings XI Punjab in a Super Over, after pacer Kagiso Rabada had conceded only two runs which is the lowest-ever in a Super Over after both teams registered identical scores of 157/8 in stipulated 20 overs.

Speaking about the wicket in Abu Dhabi, that’s the venue for their next encounter, Mishra said, “Well about the Abu Dhabi wicket, since we haven’t played or practiced there, I feel it might support batting more.”

“The wicket, however, seemed to be a little slow and the batsman gets a little advantage there because of the slow movement of the ball.”

The veteran leg spinner was very clear in his role as a wicket-taking bowler.

“A leg-spinner is always a wicket-taking option and that’s a great thing for any team I would say,” he added.

Amit Mishra has 157 wickets to his name and is only behind pacer Lasith Malinga who has 170 wickets in the leading wicket-takers list in IPL history.

Amit Mishra: Ravichandran Ashwin And Ishant Sharma Are Not Severely Injured And Are Monitored By Team Management Closely

Injuries to their main bowlers has been a bit of a concern for the Delhi Capitals, with two of their key wicket-takers in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma having to stay out of the last game due to a few niggles. But Amit Mishra said that the two bowlers are doing fine, and should be available for selection for Tuesday’s match.

“They [Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin] are not severely injured. They bowled at the nets yesterday (Sunday) and they are supposed to bowl at the nets today as well.”

“The management is monitoring them closely, they have training session scheduled today as well. According to me, they shouldn’t miss out on another fixture because they seem to have recovered from their injuries which were not severe in the first place,” Mishra said.

Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a superb over against KXIP picking up 2 wickets but got injured when he tried in vain to save a single off his own bowling while Ishant Sharma injured himself as the injury resurfaced again in practice.
