Want to be a professional cricketer?
Anil Kumble, the former Indian captain, present Head Coach and Director of cricket operations of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and present chief of the ICC Cricket Committee, is still hopeful about the fate of the IPL 2020. His former national teammate, VVS Laxman is also optimistic about the IPL 2020.
IPL 2020 was initially scheduled from 29th March to 24th May 2020. However, the coronavirus pandemic has forced to postpone the beginning of the IPL 2020 for an indefinite period, and the fate of this tournament is still doubtful due to the pandemic and other pre-scheduled cricket events.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is searching for a new window to organise the IPL 2020 safely, it can be possible if the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 gets postponed which has been scheduled to run between 18th October and 15th November 2020 in Australia.
There’s still a possibility: Anil Kumble about the IPL 2020
Anil Kumble is still hopeful about the IPL 2020. He believes that it is still possible to organise in this year if they can cram in the schedule. Kumble has also supported to experience the IPL 2020 in empty stadiums.
Anil Kumble said in the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’, “Yes we are hopeful and optimistic that there is still a possibility (to hold IPL this year) if we can cram in the schedule.
“If we are going to have a stadium without spectators, then probably have 3 or 4 venues; there’s still a possibility, we are all optimistic.”
VVS Laxman also has the same view about the fate of the IPL 2020
On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) batting mentor, VVS Laxman also believes that the IPL 2020 is still very much possible if it happens in one city, which cuts the travelling challenge in this pandemic.
Laxman claimed, “Absolutely (there is chance to hold IPL this year), and also make sure that all the stakeholders have a say.
“…you should identify one venue, which probably has 3 or 4 grounds; if at all you find that kind of a venue because travel is again going to be quite challenging.
“You don’t know who’s going to be where at the airports, so that I’m sure the franchises and the BCCI will be looking into.”
The fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 can be decided on 10th June 2020. If the T20 World Cup follows the actual schedule, it will be very hard to organise the IPL 2020 as there will be hardly any proper long window for this cash-rich tournament. However, then the BCCI can think to shorten the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.
