Virat Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma had paid tribute to his Mumbai Indians (MI) Lasith Malinga, who played his last ODI at Colombo against Tamim Iqbal-led Bangladesh on Friday. In his heartfelt note, Rohit had effusively praised Sri Lankan veteran for rendering his services to the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions.
Malinga had returned to the Indians’ dressing room for the twelfth edition, had left an impact straightaway. He had bagged 16 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 27.37. The leading wicket-taker in the IPL had snared 170 wickets with his average reading as incredible 19.80.
Rohit, who had always believed in Malinga, had further expressed satisfaction on seeing his gun bowler paying rich dividends early on. Malinga has always been at the forefront who also made things pretty difficult with his bowling show.
The 32-year-old Nagpur-born Rohit in his note, reiterated that he would pick Malinga as that ‘one match-winner. He added Malinga has often delivered. Besides, he said the fast bowler’s presence had boosted the morale of the team.

Fondly known as ‘Slinga Malinga’, the 35-year-old had made an appearance in his last ODI on 26th of July against the Tigers. He had played a pivotal role in Lanka’s 91-run win over Bangladesh in the first ODI of the ongoing five-match series.

Malinga conceded 38 runs in 9.4 overs which eventually saw him recording two maidens. In his three wickets, he had castled both the openers what he is actually known for since 2004.
The Galle-born Malinga had represented Sri Lanka in 226 ODIs. He had claimed 338 wickets at an average of 28.87.
