Ashes 2019: David Warner Shows Empty Trouser Pockets to Raucous Edgbaston Crowd

Steven Smith has been at the forefront to deliver of Australia with other batsmen struggling to score runs for the visitors in the ongoing Ashes series. Meanwhile, David Warner bore the brunt of unruly Edgbaston crowd alongside Cameron Bancroft as well as Smith.

The trio had made a return to the Test fold after servicing sanctions in the wake up of Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

Meanwhile, Warner had returned to the Test fold after a prolonged gap of over 16 months. Although, Warner had failed to leave an impact with the bat.

Earlier, the senior campaigners had made a return to the international fold during the recently-held ICC World Cup 2019. The duo had played a significant role for Australia. However, the Kangaroos had lost to hosts England in the second World Cup semi-final.

Meanwhile, Warner didn’t found it easy on the field as well. The unruly crowd had taunted him, which also saw English fans chanting, ‘He has got sandpaper in his hands”. However, the southpaw had responded to the relentless English crowd by showing his trouser pockets while wearing a smile on his face.

In response, the Birmingham crowd had laughed and applauded Warner for his generous act.

Earlier, he had also shown his hands to the boisterous English crowd who kept on booing Warner, who was stationed at the boundary ropes.

As the chants got louder, Warner further kept on accepting when he has been welcomed for.

In the ongoing first Test of the Ashes campaign, Smith is nearing tenth Ashes hundred and second consecutive ton on his comeback.

Batting first, Australia post 284 in the first innings with Smith scoring 144. In response, England scored 374 with Rory Burns slamming a maiden Ashes hundred.

Meanwhile, in second innings Smith has again shouldered the responsibility. He has played remarkable innings to keep the visitors in the hunt on a relatively pretty difficult Edgbaston surface.

The right-handed batsman scored 144-ball unbeaten 98 with Australia 231 for four in their second innings. Thus, at lunch on day four of the Edgbaston Test, Australia are leading England by 141 in their second essay.
