England star pacer Mark Wood believes that fellow pacer Jofra Archer will be ready for the all-important Ashes 2023 starting on June 16 in Edgbaston. The LSG pacer said that Archer is a champion cricketer and said that he would make a comeback from recurring injuries.
Jofra Archer struggled due to his fitness issues over the last couple of years and made a comeback in SA20 for MI Cape Town, but found it difficult to find his rhythm after coming back from a long injury lay-off and has played only two games for the five-time champions in the league stage.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mark Wood said that it would be frustrating for Archer to sit in the dressing room not playing the game and said that Archer would make a comeback into the side.
“I feel for Jofra actually and I can sympathize with him quite a bit there. You feel like you’re just getting back and then you have a little setback and things happen. He’s a champion player and I’m sure he’ll come back and be a champion again,” Mark Wood said.
With the all-important Ashes scheduled in a month, Wood is hopeful of Jofra Archer playing in the high-octane clash against Australia and said that England and Mumbai Indians medical team would look after him to get him ready for the forthcoming series.
“He has overcome bigger things and I’m sure that he will be ready for the Ashes. He’ll get great treatment there in Mumbai and England will look after him so that, come the Ashes, he will be mentally and physically ready,” Wood added.
With James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Ollie Robinson, and Mark Wood in the team England team might rotate their bowlers in the Ashes 2023. Mark Wood was England’s leading wicket-taker in the 2021-22 Ashes series in Australia and will look to contribute to the team’s success in home conditions.
