If reports are to be believed, veteran fast bowler Ashish Nehra has emerged as the top contender for the post of India’s bowling coach. Nehra has emerged a front-runner for the bowling coach’s job even as former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan had been tipped to assume the responsibility.
In modern cricket, it is very important for a team to remain one step ahead of their opposition and the coaches play a major role in doing so.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is also looking to renew the contracts of batting coach Sanjay Bangar and bowling coach Bharath Arun before the Zimbabwe tour in June.Even though the BCCI is reportedly satisfied with the work of the support staff there is a likelihood of Ashish Nehra being drafted in to lend his experience to the fast bowlers.
After making a comeback to the Indian team, Nehra has been seen mentoring the young bowlers with timely inputs on the field. He has done a terrific job in terms of his bowling performance in the past few months for the Indian team. The veteran bowler provided early breakthroughs in several matches which have helped the Indian team to perform well in the T20 series in Australia, Asia Cup, and the World T20.
Recently, Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar too heaped praise on Nehra for helping him in the nets.
“Getting to learn a lot from Nehra. I have played alongside him in the India jersey for one or two months. Now I’m getting to learn a lot from him in IPL. He is a bowler who keeps sharing his experience with others and that helps a lot. If I do something wrong, he comes up and guides me in the right way and the tip he shares is very helpful. I have enjoyed playing alongside him,” Bhuvneshwar said.
The veteran Delhi pacer has plenty of experience and his inclusion to India’s coaching team will no doubt help a young bowling line-up.
