Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has featured in nine editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played under many big names during his IPL career. The veteran names the best IPL captain so far in the game.
Nehra has played under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, Mahela Jayawardene, MS Dhoni, and David Warner. But he got only one chance to lift the trophy that was for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 under the captaincy of Australian cricketer Warner.
The 40-year-old has played 88 IPL matches and bagged 106 wickets at an average of 23.53. He retired from all the formats in 2017 after he last represented SRH. After his retirement, he was selected as the bowling coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the 2018 and 2019 season.
Ashish Nehra picks MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma:
In the recent interview, Nehra revealed that the best captain in IPL is MS Dhoni as well as Rohit Sharma. He said both can handle the situation calmly and led the team to win the matches from tough situations.
“In the later stages of my career, I played with him at Chennai Super Kings. There have been suggestions recently that he is overly passionate when it comes to CSK. Yes, he is very passionate about CSK but that doesn’t mean he is any less passionate when playing for India. I would rather say that it’s a good thing that an IPL captain is so attached to his franchise. Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the two best captains in IPL because they are passionate about their jobs,” Ashish Nehra told The Times of India.
“Leading an IPL team is not an easy job as it may seem to a lot of people. Unlike national teams, you get just two months to build a team and get it to perform. Captaining in T20s is tougher than Tests and ODIs. You have to remain calm and know your players really well to make decisions when the game moves so fast. Dhoni’s calm is the template and Rohit has also grown in the same manner,” he added.
So far, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has the most number of IPL trophies under his name. He has led the MI to four title win whereas Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has led the team to three title wins. The 13th edition of IPL will decide that will CSK equal the numbers of trophy or Will Rohit Sharma gain the lead?
However, the impending league’s future is under threat because of the outbreak of coronavirus.
