While the International Cricket Council (ICC) is thinking about the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is figuring out the fate of the Asia Cup 2020. Recently, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has wished to host the Asia Cup 2020, which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly given the green signal.

Australia will host the seventh edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from 18th October to 15th November 2020. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the fate of this T20 World Cup is doubtful.

On the other hand, the Asia Cup 2020, which will be the second edition of the T20 Asia Cup and 15th edition of the overall Asia Cup, has been scheduled in September 2020 after understanding the T20 World Cup schedule. Though Pakistan was awarded to host the Asia Cup 2020, the PCB has decided to shift this tournament after the request from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as currently, they can’t travel in Pakistan.

PCB has already agreed to our hosting Asia Cup 2020: SLC chief

The host nation for the forthcoming Asia Cup hasn’t been confirmed yet. While the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has wished to host this tournament, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has now reportedly offered to organise the Asia Cup 2020. Moreover, the PCB has reportedly also agreed to award the hosting rights to Sri Lanka.

According to Sri Lankan media outlet Ceylon Today, SLC chief Shammi Silva said, “We had a discussion with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and they have already agreed to our hosting this edition due to the present world situation.”

Moreover, the SLC chief further added that they also got the green signal to host the Asia Cup 2020 from the recent ACC meeting.

Silva continued, “We had an online ACC meeting and they basically gave us the green light to host the tournament.”

However, the decision about the fate of the Asia Cup 2020 is currently pending as the ACC is first waiting for the final decision about the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.

While the fate of the T20 World Cup can be decided on this Wednesday (10th June), the fate of the Asia Cup 2020 can be decided in the next ACC meeting.
