Australian Cricketers Are Practicing On Main Hyderabad Wickets Before The T20I Series

Before the limited-overs series against the host side India, the visiting team Australia has initiated a unique plan to adopt the Indian conditions properly. While they will play the first T20I on 24 February at Visakhapatnam, Australian cricketers are to busy to prepare themselves on the main pitches of Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad).

India and Australia will play a two-match T20I series and five-match ODI series from 24 February to 13 March. They will play the first T20I on 24 February at Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium (Visakhapatnam). However, on late Monday (18 February), Australian cricketers landed in the near city, Hyderabad. They have planned to practice on the main pitches of Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad) to adopt the Indian conditions quickly.

The visiting side had a rest on Tuesday (19 February). They have the schedules of practice matches at Hyderabad on both next days, Wednesday (20 February) and Thursday (21 February). After then, they will travel to Visakhapatnam for the first T20I.

According to The New Indian Express, the sources clarified, “They will practise from 4 to 7 pm on both days. They did not want to practise in the areas generally reserved for teams, but on the pitches of the main ground. The idea is to adapt to Indian conditions as soon as possible.

They will most probably play practice matches among themselves to be match-ready. That is the plan for both days.”

Australia can’t get the same treatment at ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium

Later, that source revealed the reason why Australia hasn’t got the same treatment at Visakhapatnam. As the first T20I will begin very soon, there is no proper time left to heal any damages on the main pitch.

They added, “Since the match is supposed to begin very soon, the main pitch at ACA-VDCA Stadium cannot be provided for practice, as it could get damaged.”

However, the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad) will organise the first ODI of the tour on 2 March. The sources added that Australia’s practice wouldn’t affect to arrange the first ODI of the series. They believe that they have enough time to bring back the best wickets, even some damages occur on the pitch.

The sources claimed, “We have time to bring the wickets back to their best, even if they get roughed up during the matches they play.”

Since 2009/10, Australia hasn’t won any international series in India. Moreover, they haven’t won any T20I series in India yet. Last time, Australia won the ODI series in India in 2009/10 by 4-2 (seven-match series).
