While Test cricket is globally considered as the purest form of cricket, Test debut is the special chapter for every cricketer. Every debutant always tries to impress the cricket fans with his top-class performances, but only a few cricketers manage to reach any special feat.

While Test cricket is more than 140-year-old, where we have experienced more than 2,000 Test matches and 3000 cricketers, only five batsmen have scored a double-century on their respective Test debuts.

Here we are talking about these batsmen who scored a double-century on Test debut

England cricketer Tip Foster was the first Test debutant to hit a double-century. He made a Test debut during the 1903 Sydney Test against the hosts Australia, where he scored 287 runs (37 fours) during England’s first innings in that Test match.

While the hosts scored 285 runs in the first innings, Foster’s incredible double-century in his first Test innings helped the English team to score 577 runs in their first innings.

Though Australia tried to fight back in their second innings as they scored 485 runs in their second innings, England chased down the 194 runs target in the fourth innings after losing five wickets. However, in that fourth innings, Foster scored only 19 runs.

Foster played a total of eight Tests till 1907 where he managed to hit one more half-century and ended with the batting average of 46.30.
