It was the 1999 Boxing Day Test between the hosts New Zealand and the visitors West Indies at Wellington, where the right-handed batsman Mathew Sinclair became the fourth Test debutant to score a double-century. After the hosts were sent to bat first, New Zealand scored 518/9 decl., majorly thanks to the Test debutant Sinclair who scored 214 runs off 447 balls (22 fours).

In reply, the visitors were all out for just 179 and 234 runs as the hosts won that match by an innings and 105 runs. Till 2010, Sinclair played 33 Tests, 54 ODIs and two T20Is.
