While the Caribbean star Chris Gayle is the only cricketer to hit 10+ T20 centuries as the left-handed batsman has recorded 22 T20 centuries, he is also holding the record of most IPL centuries as he has hit it for the six times. Out of these, he hit the first five IPL centuries during his lengthy tenure for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). For the RCB, the left-handed batsman hit two centuries in the IPL 2011, while he hit one century each in the IPL 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Gayle’s third IPL century is still the record of the highest individual score in a T20 inning. In the IPL 2013, during the match against the Pune Warriors India (PWI) at Bengaluru on 23rd April 2013, Gayle recorded the fastest T20 century in just 30 balls and scored the historic 175 not out off 66 balls (13 fours and 17 sixes). His batting helped the RCB to score 263/5 (20 overs) while they restricted the PWI to just 133/9 (20 overs) and won that match by 130 runs.

In the IPL 2018, Gayle hit his sixth IPL century but this time for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). It was the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Mohali (19th April 2018), where Gayle scored 58-ball century and his 104 not out off 63 balls (only four and 11 sixes) helped the KXIP to score 193/3 (20 overs) in the first innings. His team won that match by 15 runs as the SRH replied with 178/4 (20 overs).
