On Monday (26th October) evening, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the complete Indian squad for the upcoming Australia tour.

The Indian national cricket team will resume their international cricket with the three-match ODI series against the hosts Australia, most probably in late November 2020. Then in the same Australia tour, India will play the three-match T20I series and four-match Test series against the hosts.

The complete fixture for the India tour of Australia will be released soon. But the BCCI has decided to announce the entire squad for this upcoming away tour on Monday evening.

One of the big news in the Men-in-Blue squad is that KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain in the white-ball format due to the absence of Rohit Sharma. While Virat Kohli will continue his leadership role in all the three formats, Ajinkya Rahane will continue his vice-captain role in the Test squad.

Due to the hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma is missing the entire squad for the forthcoming Australia tour. The BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his fitness status along with the senior tall pacer Ishant Sharma, who has also missed out the Test squad for the Australia tour.

Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery leg-spinner who has performed consistently for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL 2020, has been included in the T20I squad. On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal has been named in all the three squads for the upcoming Australia tour.

India haven’t played an international game after last February. Though they had a three-match home ODI series against South Africa in last March, the first ODI was washed out in the rain and the other two matches were cancelled due to the rise of coronavirus cases in the country.

Last time, India toured in Australia in 2018/19 summer. In that tour, India won their first-ever Test and ODI bilateral series in Australia as both had the 2-1 results (four-match Test series and three-match ODI series). Meanwhile, the three-match T20I series in that tour had the draw result with 1-1.
