After the huge response for the next two-year IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise, which were recently finalised, BCCI (Board of Council for Cricket in India) is starting to think of another different T-20 league.
According to a report in The Economics Times, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said that the Indian board is thinking about it.
Thakur said, “We are thinking about this, considering the number of people who wanted to own an IPL team.”
The board could fit the league during the time of Champions League, which has been discontinued 6 edition.
Around 20 bidders showed their interest for franchising a team in the IPL. Out of them, just two franchises were selected for the two different cities that will be eligible for just two years. The two teams are slotted in for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were banned for two years.
At Tuesday, it was decided that Intex group would pay 10 crores for Rajkot while Sanjeev Goenka would pay 16 crores for Pune.
Thakur also talks about the playing of 10 teams in the IPL. He explained, “If we have 10 teams, we will not be able to fit them in the IPL window and that would also mean more 4pm games that do not bring in the kind of TRP the evening games do and the quality of the game too suffers.”
IPL 2016 is scheduled to start from 9th April to 29th May. The auction for IPL 2016 will be held on 6th February in Bangaluru. The trading window for this season will be open at 15th December and close at 31st December, where the existing 6 franchises can release their players.
