BCCI Raises The World Cup Security Concern To ICC

In the wake of Pulwama terror attack, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised India’s security concern during the upcoming World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured that they will do everything to ensure the safety for the Indian cricketers.

Since the Pulwama terror attack, the BCCI is re-thinking about the Indian players’ safety and security matter. Now, the BCCI has raised India’s security concern during the upcoming World Cup.

England and Wales are set to host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July. A total of 10 teams will participate in this competition. These teams are England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Windies.

BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has recently raised the safety and security concern to the ICC.

A BCCI official said according to PTI, “On behalf of the BCCI, Rahul Johri raised concerns for the safety and security of the Indian team, match officials and the Indian Fans, at the CEC Meeting.”

However, the official also added that the ICC CEO David Richardson has assured about the Indian players’ safety and security matter.

The official added, “The ICC CEO David Richardson assured the BCCI that the ICC will ensure that everything is done to address the concerns raised.”

This recent crucial interaction happened at the start of the ICC’s Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting. Though that discussion was not part of the original agenda, the BCCI didn’t hesitate to open out their primary concern.

Since the Pulwama terror attack incident, the India-Pakistan political tension has arisen gradually. Many Indians have come to protest against that incident by throwing away the entire relationship with Pakistan. Many Indians have even called to boycott the Pakistan match in the upcoming World Cup.

Since January 2013, India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral cricket series. At present, they only meet during the ICC or ACC tournaments. According to the upcoming World Cup schedule, India and Pakistan will meet on 16 June at Manchester.

While some Indian cricket experts have called to boycott that game, some other cricket experts have felt that India should play that game and win that game too.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is waiting for the government judgment to take the final call on that game.
