BCCI Reacts to Ambati Rayudu’s Sarcastic Tweet After World Cup Ouster
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has reacted to the sarcastic tweet of Ambati Rayudu after he was left out of the World Cup squad. Rayudu had taken to his Twitter to take a dig at the national selectors. The right-hander who was expected to be India’s number four batsman was overlooked on 15 April, when the World Cup squad was announced.
Meanwhile, the chief selector MSK Prasad had said that Vijay Shankar was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu as he brings three dimensions of the game to the table. Subsequently, Rayudu took a jibe at the selectors and said that he has just ordered 3D glasses to watch the World Cup.
BCCI gives their reply.
“We have taken note of what Rayudu has tweeted. (But) Let’s accept that emotions are running high at this moment. There is bound to be a disappointment and there needs to be an outlet of expression as long as it’s not out of line,” a senior BCCI said on Wednesday.
“He will need some time to soak in the disappointment and it’s understandable. There is no need for sanctions. Also, he is one of our standbys. If any injury happens there is every chance, he would go,” the official said as quoted by PTI.
Meanwhile, there was no doubt that Ambati Rayudu had deserved his chance in India’s World Cup squad. He was playing continuously since the Asia Cup and his performance with the bat was decent. However, he had to pay the price for his poor current form.
Rayudu could only score 33 runs in the three matches of the home series against Australia. Thus, he was dropped from the final two matches. Furthermore, he isn’t in the best of forms in the ongoing IPL as he has thus far scored 138 runs in eight matches at an average of 19.71. However, his performance in New Zealand was impressive as he was the leading run-getter for India with 190 runs.
In fact, Virat Kohli had also earlier said that Ambati Rayudu is going to be India’s number four batsman at the World Cup. However, it wasn’t to be the case but Rayudu, Navdeep Saini and Rishabh Pant are now named as standbys for the World Cup.
