England all-rounder Ben Stokes is in New Zealand to support his father, who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Last month, he had left the Test series against Pakistan in between to meet his father. As a result, his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is also uncertain as the league is set to begin from Saturday (19 September).
But the World Cup-winning player has started taking practice session in Christchurch. Stokes shared a video clip in his Instagram account where he is bowling in nets. The pacer was seen in form as he bowled a beauty to hit the off-stump of the batsman.
Stokes wrote on Instagram, “Been great being in Christchurch we’re it all began for me. thanks to @sydenhamcricket for letting me use their facilities to bowl in..unlucky today @nick.smithson.7.”
Ben Stokes might miss the first half of IPL 2020:
As per reports in PTI, Ben Stokes, who plays for Rajasthan Royals, will miss the first half of the league. Last season, he also missed a few matches.
Stokes is the one-man army for any team because he is dominant with both bat and ball. He is a vital cog for the Royals and his absence for the much-awaited season might hurt them.
Talking about Ben Stokes participation in IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals head coach Andrew McDonald said that they are ready to give their star all-rounder “as much time as he needs” and respect his privacy
In IPL 2019, the England player played nine matches where he scored 123 and picked six wickets. He amassed 196 runs and picked eight wickets in 13 matches during the IPL 2018.
Meanwhile, 10 England players, including Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, landed the UAE on Thursday (17 September) to join their franchise camps.
The IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 to November 10 and the tournament will run for 53 days. Rajasthan Royals will face Chennai Super Kings in their opening game on September 22.
