Saqlain Mushtaq (Pakistan): 8-2-12-0 vs Australia at Brisbane on 9th January 2000

It was the opening game of the Carlton & United Series 2000 (ODI tri-series). After taking bat first, Pakistan batting was hugely struggling from the beginning. With the help of the lower-middle-order batsmen, Pakistan managed to score 184/8 (50 overs). While Saqlain Mushtaq scored 37 not out, captain Wasim Akram (35), wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan (33) and Waqar Younis (23*) also played the crucial knocks. Among the Aussie bowlers, Andrew Symonds (3/34) bagged three wickets.
However, the hosts were bundled out for just 139 runs as Pakistan won that match by 45 runs. Only Ricky Ponting (32), Michael Bevan (31*) and opener Adam Gilchrist (27) managed to reach the 20-run mark in that innings. While Abdul Razzaq (4/23), Shoaib Akhtar (3/31) and Waqar Younis (2/25) were the wicket-takers, off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was very economical with the ball as he ended with the bowling figures of 8-2-12-0 (economy rate 1.50).
