IPL 2019: I Think We Have One Of The Best Bowling Line-Ups – Ishant Sharma
Indian pacer Ishant Sharma believes that his IPL side Delhi Capitals (DC) has one of best bowling line-ups at present.
Delhi Capitals is set to begin their new season differently. For the first time, the Delhi franchise will play as Delhi Capitals. In the previous 11 IPL seasons, they played as Delhi Daredevils, but they changed the name of the team in last December.
In the past years, the Delhi franchise disappointed with their below average performances. They have failed to qualify for the playoffs in last six seasons.
However, Ishant Sharma is confident about the present bowling line-up of Delhi Capitals. Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma are in the squad as the major pace bowlers of the team. Meanwhile, the experienced Amit Mishra is also ready to lead the spin bowling attack, and Sandeep Lamichhane is ready to shine again for the Delhi side.
Talking about Delhi Capitals’ present bowling attack, Ishant Sharma said, “Our team has picked up some great bowling options in the squad and with the likes of Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada in the team, I think we have one of the best bowling line-ups this time. We have some very good all-rounders along with great spinners, which shall help us in restricting teams from scoring freely.”
Ishant Sharma is focusing on taking more wickets
Since IPL 2013, Ishant Sharma has played only a few IPL matches. Moreover, in the last season, none of the sides had put the bid on him. However, in the 2019 IPL Players’ Auction, Delhi Capitals bought him for INR 1.1 crore.
The 30-year-old right-arm tall pacer is focusing on taking more wickets in the new IPL season. He has picked up 59 wickets in 76 IPL matches (average 37.81).
Talking about his plan for the new season, Ishant Sharma said, “I am very focused on taking more wickets throughout the tournament instead of just bowling well. Of course, taking wickets depends on how well you bowl, but the most important thing is helping the team by taking important wickets.”
It makes me immensely happy to be able to represent Delhi Capitals
Before making his debut for the Delhi franchise, Ishant Sharma has played for five more different teams in his IPL career. These teams are Kolkata Knight Riders (2008-2010), Deccan Chargers (2011-2012), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013-2015), Rising Pune Supergiants (2016) and Kings XI Punjab (2017).
However, he has admitted that he feels happier to play for his home side. He has also revealed his target in the upcoming IPL 2019 which is to win the tournament. The Delhi franchise has never reached the IPL final yet.
He said, “I have played for different teams in the IPL but it makes me immensely happy to be able to represent Delhi Capitals this season. Being a Delhi boy, it is a great chance for me to represent my home side and my most important target is to make the Capitals win the coveted title.”
The IPL 2019 is set to begin on 23rd March. Delhi Capitals will start their journey on 24th March when they will meet the host side Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai). Ishant Sharma and his team are looking forward to opening the tournament in a great style.
He added, “It will be crucial for us to start well against Mumbai Indians in their home ground. We know the crowd will be with them, but our team has enough experience to tackle the pressure and perform against a strong line-up. We are all looking forward to play our first match in this exciting new season.”
Delhi Capitals will play their first home match in the new IPL season on 26th March. On that day, they will face the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
