The swing king of the Indian bowling unit, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has said that team India have been unfortunate on missing out on the ICC trophies in recent years. Team India last won an ICC trophy in the year 2013 when they beat England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 under the captaincy of the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni.
After that, team India lost to Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014. In 2015, they lost to Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015. India then lost to West Indies in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016. They lost the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2017 losing it out to arch-rivals Pakistan in the final. Their recent defeat in an ICC event came in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when they were knocked out by New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament.
Now, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has said that team India has been unfortunate in the recent ICC events and it troubles him as a player who is determined to win competitions.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar Opens Up On India’s Recent Failures In The ICC Events:
“The last we won was the Champions Trophy in 2013. And since then, there have been only 3-4 ICC tournaments and we have made it to the semis or the finals about 2-3 times,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said in the latest episode of ESPNcricinfo Cricket Baazi.
“In the 2015 World Cup we lost to Australia in the semi-final. And in 2019 World Cup, it was bad luck. An early loss of three top-order batsmen cost us the game. It rarely happens that in a match after dismissing the opposition for under 250, you are get bowled out. In that entire World Cup, Rohit Sharma had scored five or six centuries, K.L. Rahul was in good form, Virat Kohli played as always and we had MS Dhoni as well in the team,” Bhuvi added.
We Have Fought Well Every time: Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
“Even in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, things changed after Jasprit Bumrah’s no-ball. It’s not like we’ve had a one-sided loss or we went down without a fight. We’ve always lost due to an unfortunate event or incident. Although, the 2017 Champions Trophy final was a one-sided loss where they outplayed us,” Bhuvneshwar said.
“And it’s difficult to pin-point the exact reason for the loss. But losing these knockout matches masks the fact that we actually played very well through those tournaments,” he added.
