Black Belt Ajinkya Rahane Hopeful to Fire on all Cylinders
Team India Test Deputy Ajinkya Rahane is eager to break the shackles to perform in whatever capacity he could for the national team. He reiterated the optimistic approach has further helped help in tackling the tough times he has had gone through. He has further hailed Virat Kohli for leaving an impact on the team.
Recently, the top order batsman Rahane has picked a niggle. Eventually, it has kept him at the bay for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy‘s Super League stage. Following a solid show in the league stage from Mumbai, Rahane had a bleak run as he could score just contribute 58 runs for the team. He’s replaced by Shreyas Iyer as a skipper for Mumbai.
Rahane is keen to make a return:
When asked if he still hopes for a solid comeback, Rahane without shying away said, he’s has put in hard yards to take challenges head-on.
“I am very much hopeful. Like I said, I keep negative thoughts away and you never know, things can change any time,” Rahane told Sportstar in an interview.
Rahane, who has struggled with the bat, of late. He last played against Australia at Sydney in January, 2019. He hasn’t played a single limited-overs game for Team India since February 16, 2018.
“It’s important to believe in yourself and keep good people around you rather than those who will say yaar, yeh tere saath hi kyon ho raha hai (why is this happening with you, pal),” Rahane stated.
Interestingly, the Mumbai-based batsman Rahane categorically started he has stayed away from pessimists while hinting his circle is pretty much limited.
In addition, Rahane revealed he has enjoyed his time with the maximum of five who have had reposed faith in him.
“I keep my distance from such people and be comfortable with a closed group of four-five people who have believed in me all along,” Rahane added.
The top-class batsman Rahane has further heaped praise on Kohli for his work ethic and approach towards the teammates. Rahane reminisced India as a unit went on to enjoy their success in Australia and South Africa respectively.

Rahane added Kohli has been selfless and his approach towards the game sets him apart from his counterparts.
By going the fact, there’s no uncertainty within the change room. Besides, Rahane feels it has served the team’s cause in a broader perspective.
“Our captain (Virat Kohli), is an unselfish person and that reflects on the team. If you see, in South Africa and Australia, we enjoyed each other’s successes in Tests. So, there’s absolutely no insecurity in the Indian dressing room,” added.
Rahane has featured in 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is for India since August 2011. The Maharastra-born batsman had a significant mark in the Test fold.
In 56 Test which was spread over 95 innings, Rahane accumulated 3,488 runs at an average of 40.55. He slammed nine hundreds and 17 half-centuries while donning the whites.
