Former Australian left-arm spinner Brad Hogg has recently chosen the better spinner in Test cricket between the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
At present, international teams prefer mostly leg-spinners or left-spinners. The growth of the off-spinner has been slowed down in the present moment. However, there are still some reputed off-spinners are playing the vital roles for their national teams.
When we think about the off-spinners in present days, the 33-year-old Ravichandran Ashwin and the 32-year-old Nathan Lyon come on top of this list. Both the off-spinners are very experienced and successful in international cricket. Both of them are playing major roles for their respective teams in Test cricket.
The former no.1-ranked Test bowler Ashwin has taken 365 wickets in 71 Tests. He is currently the third most Test wicket-taker among the Indian spinners.
Meanwhile, Lyon has picked up 390 wickets in 96 Test matches. In Australian cricket history, Lyon is the second most Test wicket-taker among the spinners. His best-ever ICC Test bowling rankings was seven.
I feel Lyon has taken the mantle from Ashwin over the last year just as the best off-spinner: Brad Hogg
Recently, a fan asked Brad Hogg about his choice between Ashwin and Lyon in Test cricket. Hogg feels that Lyon was better than Ashwin over the last year. However, he is pleased to see that both the spinners are continuously focusing on improving their games and never getting satisfied with their present status.
Hogg wrote on his Twitter account, “I feel Lyon has taken the mantle from Ashwin over the last year just as the best off-spinner, but I love the way both continue to improve there games and not be complacent where they are at. #hoggytime”
