Former Australian speedster Brett Lee recently revealed how he enjoyed to bowl against the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar, who stretched his international career for 24 years, was known as one of the greatest batsmen in international cricket history. He not only played the record number of international matches (similar record in the Test and ODI records), he also scored the record international runs (similar record in the Test and ODI records).
The former right-arm fast bowler Brett Lee, who managed to pick up 718 international wickets (310 Test wickets, 380 ODI wickets and 28 T20I wickets), recently claimed that he enjoyed bowling against Sachin Tendulkar.
He told TOI, “My sort of one day records are better than my Test records because I think I’ve got more of an opportunity in one-day cricket than Tests. I was the 12th man for 18 months. When I was at my peak, I was bowling at 160kph. I missed out most in the 2005 and 2006 summer. So, I guess it took a lot out of me in my Test career. But I think maybe my style of bowling is more suited towards one day cricket. And I reckon the chance to bowl against Sachin Tendulkar was something that really thrilled me.”
I wanted to make sure that I was on top of my game: Sachin Tendulkar
While Tendulkar was one of the best batsmen in the cricket world, Lee always tried to put his best performances against the legendary Indian cricketer.
Lee said, “I wanted to make sure that I was on top of my game. So, if you want to compete with the best you have to be at your best. And I’ve thought that when I’m playing against Sachin most times, I was at my best because he brought the best out of me.”
While Lee managed to dismiss Tendulkar for 14 times in international cricket, his second-best international record against a batsman (Lee dismissed Ramnaresh Sarwan for 15 times in international cricket), the legendary Indian cricketer also managed to achieve a good record against him. Lee enjoyed that top-class on-field contest with Tendulkar.
He continued, “I know I have a good record against Sachin. But he’s got a good record against me too in terms of scoring runs. That was always a huge contest against him. I really enjoyed that contest.”
I enjoyed bowling against VVS Laxman the most: Brett Lee
After then, Lee took the names of some other top-class batsmen VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Brian Lara against whom he also enjoyed to bowl. While he feels lucky to bowl against them, Lee also praised Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Lee added, “I enjoyed bowling against VVS Laxman the most. Because he was almost impossible to get out. And then Sehwag. You bowl to him and he will hit you for a six in Test cricket. You will say, Oh! this is just crazy the way this guy bats. He has got such a good eye. I had some really good tussles with Brian Lara. These guys are the best cricketers the world has seen And I consider myself lucky to have played against these guys the most. I’m so lucky and blessed that I had the chance to play against Sachin, Lara, Sehwag, VVS. But Dhoni, Kohli, Dravid are the others who are really good batsmen.”
