Time to take a bold move in the Indian side? After having a successful world cup India hasn’t been the same side as one would expect as they lost to Bangladesh and was criticised heavily by the media. Even though Bangladesh is a totally different side now India was piss poor in certain departments of the game.
What could be the changes that India require in the current squad? Let’s have a look
1. Change of coach:
With the help of Indian voices Ravi Shasthri, Sanjay Bangar and Bharat Arun in the side one could argue that the Indian players are in the perfect comfort zone. While the batting seems to be in the safer hands under the guidance of Ravi Shastri, the bowling department is always concerning team India due to their consistent poor performances which was evident from the recent Bangladesh series. Appointing a strong bowling coach would be a great option for team India.
2. Not to be too reliant on Virat Kohli:
Virat Kohli, is the strong pillar of Indian batting as he led India to several victories single handedly and has been consistent for many years. The contributions of Virat Kohli in many famous Indian victories is huge, and when it comes to chasing huge totals he is matchless by any one. However, India has been too reliant on Virat Kohli which might backfire them and the top order with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan must take the responsibility and give India a good start in matches to come.
Jadeja has been in top form in the year 2013 and 2014 but ever since his shoulder injury he hasn’t been the same. He failed on consistent basis giving numerous number of chances. He didn’t had a great world cup either. However, Jadeja has not been in the contension for Test matches. The all-rounder has let down team India in both the departments of the game in recent times and eventually lost his place in the third ODI against Bangladesh. Stuart Binny seems to be a suitable replacement for Ravindra Jadeja who looked impressive in the last couple of matches he played against Zimbabwe.
4. Death Bowling:
Death bowling is the one aspect India has been struggling for many years and couldn’t find a single bowler who can bowl Yorkers on consistent basis in the death overs which resulted in giving away runs in heap against top sides. Shami is the only bowler who can perfect the Yorker but unfortunately he has been injured after a successful world cup. “Practice makes the man perfect” they say. Practicing hard in the nets, bowling Yorkers consecutively will help India resolving from this issue. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was impressive in the recent Zimbabwe series by his death bowling and Shami returning in months to come one could imagine India will be a formidable death bowling unit.
5. Settling down middle order issues:
The contribution of top three has been immense over the last couple of years and they see through India on most of the occasions which left the middle order untested. With Rohit Sharma moving up the order as an opener and performing well, the likes of Rahane has been pushed down to middle order and hasn’t make full use of it. In the odd chances given to Rayudu he hasn’t used it effectively but has been better than Rahane and averages more than 45. Rayudu however shown promise as a strong middle order batsman and probably he might be the solution for India in middle order.
