Cheteshwar Pujara’s Deal With Gloucestershire Turned Down Due to Coronavirus Pandemic
The consequences of the Coronavirus have hit India’s Test cricketer Cheteshwar Pujar. The unprecedented virus has halted all the cricket events around the world. Pujara had bagged a short term contract from Gloucestershire which has now been turned down because of the suspension of the game.
Pujara was not part of the Indian Premier League (IPL ), for its 13th edition, so he had bagged a short term deal with Gloucestershire. He was contracted to play six matches for them, but unfortunately, now the deal has been put off.
Cheteshwar Pujara played for Yorkshire:
In an official statement released, the club informed that the fans would not be able to see one of the best Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara this year.
“As you will be aware, currently there is no cricket scheduled to be played until the end of May 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world we have to be realistic that this period without cricket may well be extended further into the summer,” an official release from the club stated.
“We will also now miss the opportunity to see Chetshwar Pujara play for the mighty Glos in the 2020 season which we know our supporters were really looking forward to,” an official release from the club stated.
Chesteshwar Pujara had helped young batters:
Gloucestershire was the fourth club Pujara was going to represent, but the pandemic has changed the whole scenario. He has previously represented Yorkshire in 2015 and 2018, Derbyshire in 2014 and Nottinghamshire in 2017. Although Pujara has excellent international stats, he has poor outings in county cricket. In 2018, he had a dry spell for Yorkshire. Thus, this season might have been important for Pujara.
Additionally, Gloucestershire was going to play first-division cricket for the first time in 15 years. But now as England Cricket Board has postponed all competitive cricket till 28th May and with travel restrictions, it will be an utter disappointment for the club.
