Will The Coaches And Players Get Salaries If IPL 2020 Gets Cancelled?

The novel COVID-19 or coronavirus has forced to postpone many global events, including the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). Due to the present crisis moment, the future of IPL 2020 is widely doubtful. In this situation, the big question is – will the players and coaches get the salaries if the IPL 2020 gets cancelled entirely?

IPL 2020 was initially scheduled to be held from 29th March to 24th May 2020. Every team was focusing on beginning their preparation for the new IPL season, but the coronavirus pandemic has destroyed every plan. Like many other countries, India is now fighting against this virus and going through the lockdown period to end the chain of this virus. However, the situation is still not under control as the coronavirus cases are increasing continuously along with the death reports, just like many other affected countries.

While the latest lockdown period will continue till 3rd May 2020, the IPL 2020 has been postponed until further notice. Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still hoping to organise the IPL 2020 in a new special window, the present crisis is opening up the major possibility of the cancellation of IPL 2020.

Coaches and support staff will get the salaries, but players won’t make any money in case of IPL 2020 cancellation

Now, the big question is whether the players and coaches will get their salaries if the IPL 2020 gets cancelled entirely. According to Sportskeeda, a team official has recently clarified that the coaches and franchisee workers will get their salaries, but the players will not earn any money if the tournament gets cancelled fully.

The official said according to Sportskeeda, “The coaches’ salaries aren’t the issue. Those who have worked round the clock and franchisee workers are going to get their salaries. But the cricketers won’t make any money if the tournament gets cancelled.”

According to Sportskeeda, the coaches and support staff have joined with their respective franchises for the salary range of INR 8-10 crore.

Meanwhile, the BCCI will have to bear huge financial losses if the IPL 2020 gets cancelled. Similarly, the franchise owners, broadcaster, sponsors and many stakeholders will also suffer massive financial losses due to the same reason.
