While cricket is getting ready to return on the field after controlling the ongoing pandemic, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) organisers want to organise the CPL 2020 in Trinidad from mid-August.
The cricket lovers have missed out the game from the middle of last March when the coronavirus pandemic forced to stop the world. Now, while the countries are slowly moving on from the lockdown process, the cricket organisers are eyeing to return as soon as possible but safely.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has already planned out the full fixtures of the three-match home Test series against West Indies. Meanwhile, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has just announced the Test squad for this upcoming England tour.
While the West Indies tour of England will happen in July, according to the proposed schedule, the CPL organisers are feeling that they are ready to organise the CPL 2020 from mid-August. The organisers have mapped out Trinidad to host the entire CPL 2020, but they first require the proper permission from the Trinidad and Tobago government.

We’re ready to play: CPL chief operating officer about CPL 2020
Talking about permission from the government, safety measurement is the key subject. The officials are prepared for the virtual meeting with cabinet ministers which will be organised on this Thursday (4th June). Some of their major discussions can be quarantine periods after arrival in Trinidad, health protocols etc.
The CPL chief operating officer, Pete Russell told ESPNcricinfo, “We’re ready to play. If you get the second wave that everyone hopes won’t come, we’d be back to square one, but the only other thing that will derail us is the government not allowing us to play for safety reasons. It’s just a case of getting the green light from them.”
According to the recent ESPNcricinfo report, the Queen’s Park Oval and the Brian Lara Academy can host the CPL 2020 matches. The CPL 2020 can run for 25 days rather than following previous year’s 39-day tournament.
Talking about the possible fixture system, we can experience mostly the double-headers as the daily match times can be 10 am and 6 pm local time.
Apart from expecting the availability of the overseas players during the CPL 2020, the organisers still believe in running this tournament in the presence of some fans on the ground.
