Cricket Ireland Announces Unchanged Squad For The Remaining ODI Tri-Series

On Friday (10th May), Cricket Ireland has announced the unchanged 14-member ODI squad for the remaining matches of the ongoing home ODI tri-series.

Ireland is currently busy in the ongoing home ODI tri-series where Bangladesh and Windies are also participating. After the end of the first round-robin stage, Ireland is in the last position along with two points. They earned that two points after their match against Bangladesh which had no result due to the rain washout.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is on top of the points table along with six points. On the other hand, Windies is in the second position with five points.

The second and final round-robin stage of this tri-series will begin this Saturday (11th May). On that day, Ireland will face Windies at The Village. After the Windies vs Bangladesh match on 13th May, Ireland will play against Bangladesh on 15th May at Castle Avenue. The top two teams in the final points table will advance for the Final of this series, and they will face each other on 17th May at The Village.

We believe the current squad deserves the opportunity to contest the remainder of the series – Andrew White

During the latest squad announcement, the Chairman of National Men’s Selectors, Andrew White claimed that they had enough faith in the present squad.

White said, “While it was unfortunate yesterday’s game was rained off, we have just had the two games so far [against England and West Indies] and selectors want to give this current 14-man squad the chance to play itself back into the current series and make a bid for the final on Friday.

“While there were a number of good performances during the Wolves game against Bangladesh last weekend, we believe the current squad deserves the opportunity to contest the remainder of the series.”

A brief story about Ireland’s recent journey

Before this ODI tri-series, Ireland played one-off home ODI against England at The Village on 3rd May. Ireland fought brilliantly in that low-scoring match but suffered a four-wicket defeat.

In the opening match of the ongoing tri-series, Ireland suffered a thrashing 196-run defeat against Windies. After Ireland sent them to bat first, Windies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope provided a record opening partnership. They managed the second highest ODI partnership which was 365 runs. With the help of Campbell’s 179 runs and Hope’s 170 runs, Windies managed their second highest ODI total (381/3 in 50 overs).
