A Googly is a very special delivery for the leg-spinners, which is a deceptive delivery for them. During a googly delivery, a wrist spin bowler manages to spin the ball in the opposite direction of his stock delivery.

Googly is also known as a wrong’un, Bosie or Bosey. The name of Bosie or Bosey has come from the inventor of the Googly, Bernard Bosanquet. During his career, Bosanquet stunned everyone by promoting this new technique of bowling which is now very popular in cricket.

Former England cricketer Bernard Bosanquet played seven Tests between 1903 and 1905 where the leg-spinner took 25 wickets. During his first-class career (1898-1919), Bosanquet managed to claim 629 wickets in 235 matches, and also the right-handed batsman scored 11696 runs.
