Steven Smith (Australia)

At present, the Australian cricketer Steven Smith is known for his consistent batting performances as he is one the greatest batsmen of his country. However, Smith was initially selected in the national team majorly for his leg-spin. Though he earlier showed very consistent batting performances in early professional career, he was performing better as a leg-spinner just before his international debut in February 2010.
In his early international career, the leg-spinner Smith only came to bat in the lower-order. However, he was gradually promoted to the batting order after starting to impress with his batting performances in international cricket. While his batting performances were improving, he moved his major focus to his batting, and evolved as a genuine batsman by making his leg-spin bowling only as a part-time option.
Smith has already played 237 international matches (73 Tests, 125 ODIs and 39 T20Is), where he has scored 12070 runs and also taken 62 wickets. He also led the Australian team in 93 international matches (34 Tests, 51 ODIs and 8 T20Is) before facing suspension due to his involvement in the sandpaper-gate incident during the 2018 Cape Town Test.
