Former successful Australian captain Ricky Ponting also featured in five ICC Cricket World Cups between 1996 and 2011. While he was the member of the runners-up side in 1996 edition, he was also the member of the champions sides in the 1999, 2003 and 2007 editions. Under his captaincy, Australia won the 2003 and 2007 CWC trophies which made him the second captain to win two CWC trophies.

During the CWC tournaments, Ponting scored 1743 runs in 46 matches (42 innings) with an average of 45.86. He hit five centuries and six half-centuries in the tournament history. His best CWC knock was during the final in 2003 edition (against India at Johannesburg on 23rd March 2003), where the right-handed batsman scored 140 not out off 121 balls and also won the Player of the Match award.
