India’s World T20 and World Cup-winning bowler S Sreesanth ruined his career after being involved in spot-fixing while playing Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals in 2013. Sreesanth, an aggressive cricketer, spoiled his reputation after his team owner Raj Kundra forced his players to fix a particular moment of the match.
Along with Sreesanth Anik Chavan and Ajit Chandila too booked for the same charge by the Delhi police. They are later most freed from the case by Delhi High Court. However, if anybody files a PIL in the Supreme Court they again have to face the trial for the same case. They can resume play, but BCCI banned them from playing official cricket.
BCCI, however, has said that it will not revoke the ban on Sreesanth and Chavan despite the court’s verdict.“Any disciplinary proceeding or decision taken by the BCCI is independent of any criminal proceeding and has no bearing. The decisions of the BCCI, based on its independent disciplinary action, shall remain unaltered,” BCCI said in a statement issued.
