Sudhakar Adhikari: On the other hand Bombay opener Sudhakar Adhikari’s tale was light and heartening. His decision to play for Bombay on the day of his marriage was not the most popular one. He was lucky that his wife did not give him a divorce on the day of marriage. The story of this unbelievable day has to start with a trivia . In 1960’s Bombay  cricket was horribly competitive and  cut throat. There are many in the queue  for the prestige  of being in the  team. The degree of competition was so fierce that established opener like Sudhakar didn’t want to take the risk of not playing the league match against Maharashtra on the day he has to tie the knot with his fiancé.  There was always a chance that he could not recover the place once a young player plays a good innings.

The muhurta, the auspicious moment, for the wedding was at 9.03 at Matunga, a place which is an hour away from Brabourne Stadium. Mumbai captain Polly Umrigar was little surprised as he said he would be a little late and would reach the dressing room at around 10.15. He scored a hundred  and saved his place.

At the end, he could manage the both.
