Australian star opening batsman has made a notable return on the cricketing field following his elbow surgery. He blasted 110 off just 77 deliveries for his club Randwick Petersham Cricket Club. His knock came during an ongoing NSW Premier Cricket tourney comprised of a day-long format.
While showing no mercy towards the opposition, the southpaw played a high-quality innings while relying on his stroke-making technique. His quickfire knock included seven sixes and four fours. Warner, who’s representing a local club, was dismissed by Henry Railz before the whole team was rattled at 219.
Warner, who’s known for his audacious display of batting, took on club’s bowlers to score runs freely across the dial.
However, his top-class knock stands as a warning for an opposition.
Well, the pocket-size dynamite is up and running to deliver according to demand.
It’s pertinent to point out that Warner picked an elbow injury during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Such has been the coincidence that former Australian skipper Steven Smith has nursed the same injury before undergoing surgery.
Warner’s blazing knock came on Saturday (March 9). Interestingly, the day after Australia registered a 32-run win over hosts India in a do-or-die clash in Ranchi.
Furthermore, the opening stand saw Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja stitched 193-run stand, as Khawaja went on to knock his first ODI ton, that too, on Indian soil.
Earlier, in March Warner alongside Smith and Cameron Bancroft were sanctioned in the wake-up a ball-tampering scandal which has somewhat tainted the image of Australian cricket. With duo being exempted on March 29, Warner has high hopes to deliver in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
On the other side, the chairman of selectors for Cricket Australia Trevor Hohns recent reiterated there’re as many as 19 names in the mix up for the 2019 World Cup. With Hohns on the lookout of players, he would be keen to see Warner performing on a regular basis.
Recently, Hohns is hopeful to see stars living up to the expectations.
Unfortunately, Smith and Warner have missed out on Pakistan tour for the five-match ODI series. Hohns reveals they’re aware of their top-notch players who’re supposed to be among runs.
“It’d be nice to see them perform but it’s just a matter of playing. We all know they’re two of the better players in world cricket. So it’s only natural we will take them seriously into consideration,” Hohns said on his India visit, quoted by CA.
Concurrently, with Australia trailing ODI series 2-1, the visitors will play penultimate ODI in Mohali on Sunday (March 10). They will kick off their last assignment ahead of the 2019 World Cup on March 22 in Sharjah against Shoaib Malik-led side.
