“Duck” is one of the humiliating figure for a batsman in cricket. In cricket, a “Duck” means a batsman’s dismissal without scoring a run (0 runs).
It is believed that the name of “Duck” came from the shape of the batsman’s run score ‘0’ which is very similar to duck’s egg. Historically on 17th July 1866, when Prince of Wales (the future Edward VII) had been dismissed on zero, a contemporary newspaper wrote that the Prince “retired to the royal pavilion on a “duck’s egg”.
In the cricket, there are differentiations between several kinds of ducks. Several names are given for several kinds of ducks in cricket; some of which are officially and others are unofficial.
