Want to be a professional cricketer?
The 22-year-old new Mumbai Indians cricketer Digvijay Deshmukh, who acted in the Bollywood movie “Kai Po Che”, starring Late Sushant Singh Rajput, recently revealed his earlier promise story with the demised actor. The youngster was very close to fulfil that promise but the recent tragedy brought the different result.
The Indian film industry and fans are very upset after hearing the recent death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant also became famous among the Indian cricket fans after portraying the role of the former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni in his biopic “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story”, which was released in 2016.
Before that superhit movie, Sushant acted as a district level cricketer, with the character name of Ishaan, in another superhit Bollywood movie “Kai Po Che!” that was released in 2013. In that movie, he groomed the 15-year-old Digvijay Deshmukh for the game, who played the character named Ali Hashmi.
On the last day of that shoot, young Deshmukh had promised to meet him next time only after becoming a decent level cricketer. In the 2020 IPL auction, the most successful IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI) bought him for the base price (INR 20 lakh). But due to lockdown, the 22-year-old Deshmukh failed to meet the Bollywood star.
According to Hindustan Times, Deshmukh said, “He was passionate about cricket. On the last day of shoot, I had promised him I’d not meet him till I became a decent level cricketer. This year, when I got selected to play for Mumbai Indians, I decided to meet him but then the lockdown happened and now he is no more. I wish the lockdown wouldn’t have been there, at least then I would have been able to fulfil the promise I made to him. I failed to do so.”
Even then I did not meet Sushant Singh Rajput because I wanted to keep the promise: Digvijay Deshmukh
To keep his promise, Deshmukh even didn’t try to meet Sushant when he came to his city for shooting during “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story”.
Deshmukh added, “Even then I did not meet him because I wanted to keep the promise. I regret it.”
Deshmukh further shared his experience with Sushant during the movie “Kai Po Che!” He said that Sushant was very friendly, happy and passionate about his work. The demised actor had also asked him about cricket to know the game.
Deshmukh said, “I was 15 then and I shot with him for six months. He would ask me to come to his room after the shoot got over, and train me with scenes and camera angles. He was very involved. He was very friendly, happy and jovial and so passionate about his work. Even though he was such a big name, he would ask me about cricket since I was already a professional cricketer than.”
Digvijay Deshmukh made his Ranji Trophy debut in the last season. Till the date, he has played the only first-class match and seven List A games.
