I Was Shocked To See Rishabh Pant Keeping The Wickets In New Zealand: Dilip Doshi
Former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi expressed that he was shocked to see Rishabh Pant donning the glove during the last away Test series against New Zealand. India was whitewashed in that two-match Test series at Kiwi’s land.
India’s team management picked wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant over Wriddhiman Saha in that two-match series. This decision had been shocked many cricket pundits because evidently Saha proved to be a better wicketkeeper in the last home series against Bangladesh. Thus, to pick the youngster didn’t digest many. Doshi has also the same views. He wants Pant to improve his skills and then return to the international platform.
“ I would play the best wicketkeeper in India first, and that’s Wriddhiman Saha. He has proven his mettle as a wicketkeeper-batsman as well. [But] wicketkeeping is such an important position that I would really not mess around with it.”
“In the absence of Dhoni, because he has left a few years back, Wriddhi should be the best choice for India. Pant has [been] spoken about [a lot] by many critics, and I’m sure he has a future, but if I were him, I would perfect my wicketkeeping technique first before donning the India cap at the Test level,” he told Sportstar.
Wriddhiman Saha clarified that he had no competition with Rishabh Pant
Earlier, Saha had spoken about his competition with Pant. He said that he didn’t feel any competition with Pant whereas they both encouraged each other to do better. The Delhi cricketer got the place in the longest format after Saha got injured, but after his return, Pant is facing in and out in the playing XI.
Pant has also lost the place in the shortest format after KL Rahul took over his wicketkeeping role. So, the youngster will have to work hard to gain his place back in the playing XI.
