Dinesh Karthik, who has turned 35 today, has been unable to get a permanent place in Team India but has given memorable contribution whenever he got the opportunity. He is famously known for his match-winning 8-ball 29 knock, which also includes his powerful six in the last ball, in the Nidahas Trophy grand-finale in 2018. He was also the part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team.
Opportunities fell short for Karthik because of the presence of the first-choice keeper in MS Dhoni. Nevertheless, he earned fame because of his special innings at the crucial stages. Apart from his innings in Nidahas trophy final, he was the leading scorer for the team in first-ever Test series win in England in 2007. He scored 263 runs in three Tests at an average of 43.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is the captain of the Tamil Nadu team in domestic cricket. In the 2019-20 season, he led his state team to the grand-finale of the Syed Mushtaq Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He last played for India in the World Cup 2019 but failed to perform in the disappointing semi-final against New Zealand. Since then, he has been dropped from the team although speculations of his comeback never end because of his regular impressive performance for his state team.
