Former Indian combative batsman Virender Sehwag believes India were good in patches. However, the tourists were not able to win the crucial junctions of the series. They had England on the mat on many occasions, however, they lacked to land the knockout punch. Thus, the series results could have been different had India won the imperative stages of the series. On the other hand, it was England who was able to hold their nerves better and won the series by 4-1.

The scoreline might not suggest it was a competitive series but sometimes the numbers don’t tell us the complete story. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag congratulated the England side on bagging the series as they were the better side.

India was inconsistent with the bat and had to pay the price. The tourists captain Virat Kohli scored 593 runs in the five-match series. However, Kohli didn’t receive the support from the other end as he was the lone warrior in the side. Thus, the visitors lacked the collective effort with the bat.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane scored some runs in between but were not consistent throughout the series.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were able to end the series on a high. Both the batsmen took an aggressive approach and scored their runs in the topmost gear. Thus, they came up with a ray of hope for the Indian side. However, the result was evident when both these batsmen got out.

Virender Sehwag also hailed Indian captain Virat Kohli for his consistency as he amassed 593 runs in the series. Sehwag also praised the bowlers for their hitting the nail on the head with their skills.

However, Sehwag emphasised that it is time we need to work hard to be a better travelling side as the upcoming Australian tour is going to throw new challenges.

Virender Sehwag took to his Twitter account to share his thoughts. Sehwag post read as, “Congratulations England on the 4-1 series win. India was good in patches, but not consistent enough with the bat. Pant & Rahul’s display on last day was very heartening, so were Kohli’s & the bowlers consistency throughout.Need to work a lot to travel better. Ab Mission Australia”.
