England vs Pakistan: ICC Clears Liam Plunkett Following Ball-Tampering Allegation
The world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) has given a clean chit to England paceman Liam Plunkett. The breather came for Plunkett, following the allegation of ball-tampering during second England vs Pakistan second ODI in Southampton May 11.
Recently, the social media creates flutter as the short video clip surfaced Plunkett ‘scuffing’ the ball which subsequently raised the eyebrows before ICC has reached a conclusion to clear Plunkett of any wrongdoing in the ongoing five-match series against Pakistan.
ICC gives green signal to Liam Plunkett:
Meanwhile, ICC cleared the air through Twitter that match officials believe that there was not enough evidence as they’ve examined the footage over-by-over.
Pertinently, scratching the ball plays a crucial role to reverse swing the ball.
“The ICC has confirmed that the match officials are comfortable there was no attempt by Liam Plunkett to change the condition of the ball or any evidence of this on the over-by-over examinations of the ball throughout Saturday’s ODI clash in Southampton,” ICC said in a Tweet.

Interestingly, the 34-year-old right-arm fast bowler Plunkett made his ODI debut on December 10, 2005, against Pakistan. He bowled the penultimate over of the game only to give away just eight runs.
Plunkett claimed the wicket of Faheem Ashraf in that over.
Also, reports suggested Plunkett has himself reported the issue with officials. It came when he came to know about the ball-tampering allegations being levied on him. Thus, on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel alongside match referee Richie Richardson have handed over the report to the ICC.
Recently, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has tightened the noose on players. Opening batsman Alex Hales has been discarded from the provisional squad after recreational drug use which also resulted in 21-day ban earlier.
England vs Pakistan:
Furthermore, the World Cup-bound Plunkett has conceded 64 runs off his nine overs. He bagged two wickets in a high-scoring game. However, the hosts won the game by 12 runs when Pakistan was chasing the daunting target of 374.
The visitors were restricted at 361 for seven. Thus, England led the five-match series 1-0 after first ODI was abandoned due to the rain.
