England’s head coach Chris Silverwood had expressed that the team will bring with the strongest bowling attack in the last Test match against West Indies at Old Trafford.
He also opines that it is very difficult to make everyone happy with the team management’s decisions. His reaction came after Stuart Broad showed disappointment over being dropped from the first Test match.
England’s team management was heavily criticised for dropping their premier pacer Stuart Broad in the inaugural match which the host eventually lost. The pacer himself was angry and frustrated with the decision.
Broad was included in the playing XI in the second Test match as James Anderson was dropped to give him rest. With the towering pacer’s masterpiece, England won that match and levelled the three-match Test series.
We are open with what what we are trying to do: Chirs Silverwood
As the two teams head to play the series-decider match, Chris Silverwood has said that they will put the best bowling combination but it will be tough for him to select apt player. He added that it is never easy to take bold decisions because of the criticisms come with it.
“We’ve got to put out the strongest attack that’s available to us. It’s very difficult to keep everybody happy all the time. But if you do things for the right reason, I think there’s an understanding there. It’s about being very honest and open with what we are trying to do and why,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Silverwood as saying.
“Everyone wants to play all the time and I’d probably be more disappointed if they didn’t. When you’re leaving out world-class players, from my point of view it’s a very good place for English cricket to be. It’s never easy and you’re always going to get pushback. But you try to be as honest as possible,” he added.
Dom Bess will be the spinner: Silverwood
The spinner Dom Bess had shown decent performance in the two Tests, picking five wickets. Silverwood said that Dom had understood his game better and would be preferred for spinner’s position.
“I thought Bessy got better and better as the game went on. He found his rhythm and the last few overs he came to the forefront. All the options are on the table but Dom is the spinner that’s in possession at the moment,” Chris Silverwood said.
Meanwhile, The third Test will be played from 24 July in Manchester. Following the West Indies tour, England will play the bilateral series against Ireland and Pakistan.
