Eoin Morgan Faces One-Match Suspension Due To Slow Over-Rate Offence
English limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has faced one-match suspension due to the slow-over rate offence in latest Bristol ODI. Due to this suspension, Morgan will miss the upcoming fourth ODI of the ongoing home ODI series against Pakistan.
On last Tuesday (14th May), England and Pakistan played the third ODI of the five-match home ODI series at Bristol. The home team England won that high-scoring match comfortably by six wickets (with 31 balls remaining). While Pakistan managed to score 358/9 (50 overs) in the first innings, the host side chased down that target in 44.5 overs after losing four wickets (359/4).
However, in the first innings of that match, England was two overs behind from the allotted time. It was the second slow over-rate offence for the English ODI side under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy in the last three months. That’s why Eoin Morgan faced a 40% match fee fine along with the one-match suspension. Meanwhile, all other English players have also faced the fine of their 20% match fees.
England and Pakistan will meet in the fourth ODI of this series on this Friday (17th May) at Trent Bridge (Nottingham). Due to the latest suspension, English captain Morgan will miss the upcoming match. The latest Bristol ODI was also Eoin Morgan‘s 198th ODI for England. Playing that match, Morgan becomes the most-capped ODI player in England cricket history.
England has already secured the ODI series
With this latest victory, England has taken the 2-0 lead of this series after the third ODI. Their first match of this series (at The Oval, London) had no result due to the rain washout. In the second ODI of this series at Southampton, England won by 12 runs in that high-scoring match.
After this home ODI series, England will be busy in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup as the host side (England and Wales). However, the suspensions and demerit points will not be carried forward in the upcoming Cricket World Cup. So, Morgan has no danger to face the bigger fines in the initial stage of the forthcoming World Cup.
Jonny Bairstow also faced one demerit point
On the other hand, English opener and wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has been handed one demerit point for hitting the stumps with the bat after losing his wicket in that Bristol ODI. He won the Player of the Match award for playing a brilliant innings of 128 runs off just 93 balls.
