There is a large amount of uncertainty looming over the future of the South African stalwarts post-2019 World Cup scheduled in England and Wales.
It is speculated that the likes of Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, and Imran Tahir might retire post the upcoming event.
The recently concluded Johannesburg Test match saw the last of Proteas stalwart Morne Morkel. This comes in as a major jolt to the South African fans with injury prone Dale Steyn also in the twilight of his career.
“I think it’s something that we can only decide in time. There has been a lot of talk about 2019 and the World Cup, but the last year has moved so quickly and now we’re a year away from the World Cup,” suggested the South African captain Faf du Plessis.

“All of us are in a similar boat where we’re just taking it series by series and if the hunger is still there, from my perspective, I’ll try and push for as long as I can.” added the talismanic captain according to Sports24.
There is big depth to our squad now: Faf
The culminated home season of South Africa went on to exhibit that the future of the South Africans lies in safe hands with world-class players such as Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada, in the ranks.

“Everyone stood up. For Aiden [Markram] in his first big series. I remember coming out to bat with him in Durban and there was a lot of chirps that he only scores runs against the small nations. He’s looking pretty good after this series. Even before this series, I knew he was special,” Faf revealed.
In conclusion, Faf Du Plessis affirmed that there are enough reinforcement in South Africa – to take over from their stalwarts.

“There is big depth to our squad now. We are losing a big player in Morne but I do feel there are guys who can step up. This, as a whole, is the most complete we have been in a series.” concluded Faf du Plessis.
