South African team is currently under the transition period. The experienced players AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla have retired from the team. Thus, the Proteas team have admitted the young and talented players led by Faf du Plessis. But the team’s performances have not been top-notch this year. With T20 World Cup is lined up, du Plessis and the South African coach are planning to bring back their retired player AB de Villiers.

De Villiers retired from all form of international cricket in May 2018 but has been regular in franchise league matches. He last played his home league Mzansi Super League 2019 where his team Tshwane Spartans reached the final but could not win the game. Now, he will head to play the Big Bash League. The 35-year old has played 304 T20s and his consistency remains unchanged and unmatched.

His experience in the white-ball format will surely help the South Africa National cricket team. Therefore, newly appointed Head Coach Mark Boucher has said that he will talk to de Villers to make a U-turn from his retirement.

Faf du Plessis has already started his conversation with AB de Villiers

Reacting to the Boucher’s statement, the Proteas skipper cleared that there has been a conversation from two to three months to bring back the South Africa star. He believes De Villiers needs to play international matches to make himself available for T20 World Cup.

“Those conversations have been happening two or three months ago,” said Du Plessis.

“It’s not a lot of time away from home. Obviously with a full campaign you have to spend a lot of time on the road. The T20 World Cup is not too far away and there isn’t a long list of T20 internationals over the season. Those conversations have taken place and they will take place before the next T20 international series starts.” Du Plessis.
