Faf du Plessis Fined 100% of Match fee For Ball Tampering Offence, But Free To Play Adelaide Test 1
South Africa's Test captain Faf du Plessis has been found guilty of breaching code of conduct.

South African Test skipper Faf du Plessis has been found guilty for tampering the ball during the second Test match against Australia at Hobart and thus has been fined 100% of his match fees by the ICC, but remains clear to be the part of the Adelaide Test which starts on Thursday.

Alleged by the media reports for using an outside substance (mint) to shine the ball, Faf faced a long three-hour hearing with ICC match referee Andy Pycroft at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday. The South African captain had been charged with ‘changing the condition of the ball in breach of Law 42.3′ by the ICC CEO Dave Richardson.

After hearings to the representations of both the parties and after looking at the television footage submitted by the umpires in the second Test match, the right-handed batsman was found guilty and in addition to the sanction imposed for his breach of Article 2.2.9, three demerit points have also been added to his disciplinary record.

In the press release ICC mentioned that,”Pursuant to Article 7.6 of the Code, if Mr du Plessis reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they will be converted into suspension points and he will be banned. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player.”

The Proteas’ skipper is expected to question the fine imposed on him.
