A fan paid the restaurant bill of Pakistan T20 captain Shahid Afridi and Pakistan batsman Ahmad Shahzad on Monday.
The Pakistan team is in New Zealand for limited-over series which will we be starting from 15th January. Afridi and Ahmad went to buy meals at a McDonald’s restaurant inside the Auckland airport. They had only US dollars but the restaurant accepts only the local currency which they didn’t carry at that moment.
Then a fan, whose name was Waqas Naveed, who was in that restaurant at that time, paid the cricketers’ bill.
Afridi said to Pakistani media that they had forgotten to change their US dollars into New Zealand currency before going to the restaurant.
Afridi said, “There was this young man behind us in the line and he offered to pay for us insisting it was his way of welcoming us to New Zealand.”
The bill payer Waqas said, “I’m delighted and happy to see that our stars from Pakistan are here. Of course, it is always good to have local stars here with us. I will come out and show support for our cricket team when the series commences, at Eden Park.”
Later, Afridi said that he was disappointed that the entire incident which was recorded by someone in the restaurant and the media had been playing it.
He tweeted, “Had us dollars which they wasn’t taking at NZ airport:) but glad 1nce again our media entertaining all of u.”
